Molly Idle wins Caldecott Honor for “Flora and the Flamingo”
Congratulations are in order for my very good friend Molly Idle who just received the Caldecott Honor for her wonderful book “Flora and the Flamingo”.
I am so happy for her especially since I always thought her books and illustrations to be a level up from everything else out there and I have just been proven right.
The Randolph Caldecott Medal annually recognizes the preceding year’s “most distinguished American picture book for children”, beginning with 1937 publications. It is awarded to the illustrator by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).[1] The Caldecott and Newbery Medals are the most prestigious American children’s book awards.
Beside the Caldecott Medal, the committee awards a variable number of citations to worthy runners-up, called the Caldecott Honors or Caldecott Honor Books.
So its basically like winning the Oscar of Children’s Books Awards.
So well done Molly.
